+

ARTE RUSSA
Russia! Nine Hundred Years of Masterpieces and Master Collections - Guggenheim Museum, 2005
Textos: James Billington, Lidia Iovleva, Robert Rosenblum, Mikhail Allenov, Alexander Borovsky, Alexander Kostenevich, Valerie Hillings, Evgenia Petrova et al.
Published to accompany the Guggenheim's blockbuster show in New York, "Russia!" explores the vast and complex phenomenon embodied by the word 'Russia' through the lens of the masterworks of Russian art from the 12th century to today, as well as art from the world-class collections amassed by Russian tsars and merchants from the 18th until the 20th centuries. It is one of the most comprehensive sources on the history of Russian art ever to be published in English.
The book's design subtly evokes the six major periods covered--Medieval Russia (twelfth to seventeenth centuries), the epoch of Peter and Catherine (the eighteenth century), the nineteenth century, the early twentieth century, the 1930s-1960s, and the 1970s to present.

David Elliott - New Worlds : Russian Art and Society 1900 to 1937 - Thames and Hudson, 1986
New Worlds offers a kaleidoscopic panorama of the creations and innovations of the period, starting and ending with the Russian pavilions at the Paris World Exhibitions of 1900 and 1937.
The political figures, from Nicholas II to Kerensky and from Lenin to Stalin, are present here, as well as the many and varied artists' groups like the Symbolists, the Acmeists, the Futurists, and the Constructivists; these and, above all, the great number of individual artists, writers, poets, theatre designers and directors, dancers and choreographers, musicians, film-makers, photographers, graphic designers, cartoonists, and textile, fashion, and pottery designers gave vital expression to a new world. Their vision, along with their achievements, were to perish in the 1930s under Stalin when idealism was suppressed in the name of ideology.
