There had been no revival of the SS100 in the immediate post-war years, and the public had to wait until 1948 for a new Jaguar sports car. When it appeared, the XK120 proved to be as successful as the SS100. It was powered by a twin-overhead-camshaft engine, this time entirely of Jaguar's own design, one which has been in its various forms the mainstay of Jaguar production ever since. The XK series of sports cars developed from the 120 to the 140 and finally the 150 before being replaced by the E-Type.
