This model was slightly changed from the Zoom 8. The Selenium exposure meter was replaced with Canon's originally developed CdS meter, which had higher sensitivity and performance. Another improvement was the exposure index needle visible in the viewfinder. A mercury battery was used for the exposure meter power source.

The grip was supplied as an accessory coming with the camera and it was changed to a compact ABS resin grip designed based on human engineering.
