Vladimir and Rosa is a West-German-French experimental film directed by the Dziga Vertov Group (Jean-Luc Godard, Jean-Pierre Gorin) released in 1970 for the German television channel Munich Tele-Pool.
Officially the last work of the Dziga Vertov group (the next film Tout va bien released in 1972 is directly credited to the names of Godard and Gorin), Vladimir and Rosa is a kind of "reconstituted television news" like those that Méliès staged using actors in the place of kings and generals, but in an agit-prop style between Mayakovsky and Brecht1, taking as a starting point a real event in the political news of the years of protest: the trial of seven white militants of the left radical and an African-American ringleader accused of a riot in Chicago, the trial of the Chicago 8 in 1968/1969.
