Mac OS 9 is an operating system created for Macintosh computers. The first version was released in October 1999. The operating system is the last in the line of operating systems that are now referred to as classic.

Among the new features in Mac OS 9 were the channel functions in the Sherlock 2 search function, which made it possible to search the Internet directly in the operating system, as well as a new, metallic look for Quicktime. Other new features included:
