The 1-gram Maple Leaf is the gram-denominated format of Canada's investment gold coin, minted by the Royal Canadian Mint. It contains 1 g of 999.9 fine gold, and its price follows the gold market rate.

History of the 1g Maple Leaf
The Maple Leaf has been Canada's gold investment coin since 1979. Minted at 999.9 fineness since 1982, it was initially produced in fractional ounce sizes, from one full ounce down to one-twentieth of an ounce.

In 2014, the Royal Canadian Mint launched the one-gram format, originally distributed under the name Maplegram25: a divisible sheet containing 25 x 1g coins, each in its own numbered blister pack. Each coin features the maple leaf on the reverse and the monarch's effigy on the obverse, with a face value of 50 cents.

How to identify a 1g Maple Leaf
The obverse bears the monarch's effigy, along with their name, the year, and a face value of "50 CENTS". The reverse shows the maple leaf, the word "CANADA", the fineness "9999", and the statement of its pure gold weight. Recent vintages also feature radial lines in the background, a security feature engraved with great precision.
