Described as "weird but genius," the Canon EF-mount Laowa 24mm f/14 Macro Lens from Venus Optics is a truly unique lens designed for close-up photography/video. Distinguished by its long, thin lens barrel, this macro lens offers a maximum magnification of 2:1 with a minimum focusing distance of 1.5' and a minimum working distance of 0.8". This lens puts you at a comfortable distance for photographing close-up subjects. Additionally, as a wide-angle lens, it offers greater depth of field when compared to traditional telephoto macro lenses, allowing for more background detail with less subject isolation.

The optical design includes extra-low dispersion and extra-refractive elements, which help suppress chromatic and spherical aberrations for a high degree of clarity, color accuracy, and sharpness. Manual focus control allows focusing from 1.5' to infinity, and the front of the lens features a built-in LED ring light to assist with focusing at close distances. The slim 0.2" diameter of the front of the lens barrel also provides greater opportunities for illuminating subjects from the front. Additionally, the front of the lens is waterproof, allowing for working with subjects just below the surface of the water or in dusty or difficult environments.

This " cine-mod " version of the lens has been optimized for video use and features integrated gears in the aperture and focus rings for iris and focus pulling using a follow focus.

The unique macro lens design offers a maximum magnification of 2:1 greater than life-size, along with a minimum focusing distance of 1.5' and a working distance of just 0.8".
The long barrel of the tubular lens helps produce a distinctive bug's-eye perspective, and despite the short working distance, the length of the lens barrel puts the camera at a comfortable shooting distance.
The 24mm wide-angle focal length offers greater depth of field and more surrounding detail than traditional telephoto macro designs, which tend to isolate the subject with shallow depth of field.
The optical design includes two extra-low dispersion elements that control color fringing and chromatic aberrations for greater clarity and color accuracy. An extra high-refractive index element is also featured, which reduces spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.
The narrow 0.8" front diameter allows for unique slide-in shots, as well as providing a wider variety of low-key and close-up photo opportunities. The smaller front diameter also makes it easier to illuminate close-up subjects from the front.
The front of the lens is waterproof, allowing you to work comfortably underwater or in dusty environments.
The front of the lens has a built-in LED ring light that is powered by a micro-USB port on the barrel, providing some illumination on close-up subjects to make focusing easier.
Designed for use as a close-up macro lens, manual focus operation also allows you to focus at infinity.
This "cine-mod" version of the lens has built-in focus and aperture gears to help with focusing and iris adjustment.
The seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
